Nowadays, Indonesia’s healthcare system is facing significant challenges, such as a low doctor-to-population ratio of only 0.4 doctors per 1,000 residents and inadequate healthcare facilities. These issues lead to long wait times for health services, particularly in disease management. To improve public access to healthcare services, the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI) is focusing on integrating technology to enhance service quality and streamline healthcare processes. One notable initiative is the development of the SatuSehat platform, which connects 60,000 services and electronic medical records.
The DTO’s initiatives include utilising artificial intelligence (AI) for non-clinical applications, such as predictive models for hypertension and remote care tools. Additionally, there is an emphasis on improving communication with patients through innovative formats, such as converting diagnostic results from text to video. Telemedicine also plays a crucial role in addressing access issues by connecting rural communities with specialists in urban areas and facilitating remote consultations and surgeries. To foster innovation, the government is promoting collaboration among hospitals, laboratories, academia, and startups through sandbox initiatives. The DTO of Kemenkes RI is developing a comprehensive digital transformation master plan aimed at reducing public complaints and enhancing healthcare operations, with the ultimate goal of “bringing care to patients.
